Peter Anderson, Ph.D.

Peter B. Anderson, Ph.D. taught at the University of New Orleans for 16 years, where he earned the rank of Full Professor, was nominated for a research professorship and an award as the best teacher on campus. Dr. Anderson developed the Seven Dimensions of Health paradigm that, unlike other published Health paradigms, includes Sexuality as one of the fundamental elements of Health. Dr. Anderson also has extensive experience teaching about Death and Dying and Ethics. The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina resulted in the dissolution of his Department and elimination of his job. He now teaches part-time in the Public Health Ph.D. program for Walden University.

Dr. Anderson has studied and taught health and sexuality in Kenya, Sweden, Denmark, Russia, and the Czech Republic. In addition to his 75+ published articles and over 1 million dollars in grant money received, he has published two edited books; one on AIDS and one on Sexually Aggressive Women. He is past vice president, president and past executive director of the Foundation for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. He is the current chair of the Student Research Grant committee for the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, a regular reviewer for 3 professional journals and on the editorial board for the Electronic Journal of Human Sexuality. He has presented 50+ papers at national conferences and has appeared on the O’Reilly Factor.

Dr. Anderson began his college career studying to become a Jesuit Priest. After leaving the seminary he received his B.S. in Psychology and M.A. in Social Psychology before earning his Ph.D. in Health and Human Sexuality from NYU in 1989. Dr. Anderson has been an advocate for women’s rights throughout his career. He was one of the founders of the Clergy Consultation Service of Missouri (an organization that provided pregnancy termination information and referrals prior to Roe vs. Wade) and was the first conscientious objector to perform his alternative service by working for Planned Parenthood. He has also worked for many years to improve the lives of those impacted by HIV/AIDS and sexual violence through his affiliations with the NO/AIDS Task Force, Women with a Vision, and the Leanne Knott Violence Against Women Project.
