Annette F. Owens, M.D., Ph.D. is certified as a sexuality counselor by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). She originates from Denmark where she earned both of her degrees and is Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of The Sexual Health Network. In 1999 she founded the Charlottesville Sexual Health & Wellness Clinic where she provides general counseling about sexuality issues.
Dr. Owens specializes in clients of any sexual orientation, sexual dysfunctions, and people with chronic illnesses, physical handicaps, and disabilities. She also delivers sexual health education content, in both written and video formats online and has written articles and chapters on the subject of sexual health. She is Editor-in-Chief of Contemporary Sexuality (AASECT's monthly newsletter), and has co-edited the four-volume book Sexual Health. Dr. Owens writes the column Sex Files for a local paper and is an active member of various national and international sexuality organizations.
